Boras Djurpark

We went to the famous Borås zoo on a (rare) sunny Sunday. The zoo was founded in 1962 by Sigvard Berggren in collaboration with Borås Municipality under the motto ‘animals in nature” and pioneered the concept for the zoo of today's Northern Europe shortly thereafter. It is very different from ones I have been to before such as London Zoo as it is more like a nature reserve. There are huge areas for just one or two animals and the whole thing is surrounded by acres of woodland. There was a 'savannah' area in the centre with all the African animals and animals from this type of terrain all together; this was another pleasing difference as I'm used to enclosures with just one type of animal. Just to get from one part of the zoo to another is a lovely walk in itself as you are walking through untouched woodland, well there's a path (but barely) and no hotdog/souvenir/ice cream stands. It was also a lovely day because it was another chance for all the new students to meet each other.
